Whether you are in the mood for a heartwarming symphony or weekend of creativity, we have you covered. This weekend in Edmonton, there’s something for everyone to keep themselves entertained! 

1. An Evening With Rachel Talalay at Metro Cinema | March 8 

Join Metro Cinema in welcoming Rachel Talalay, the director of Tank Girl (1995) to the Garneau Theatre for one night only! The esteemed director and producer will be appearing This Friday  to introduce the film and host a live Q&A following it. She will also be introducing her first feature: Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) later in the evening.

2. Brahms Symphony No.3 | March 8-9 

Enjoy the warmth of Brahms third symphony conducted by Ruth Reinhardt this weekend at the Winspear Centre. The warmth of Brahms’ third symphony has made it a favourite of many concertgoers. His friend Clara Schumann wrote: “Each movement is a jewel! I could not tell you which I loved most.” So what are you waiting for?! Head to Winspear for an evening of great music. 

3. ENTRE CHIEN ET LOUP by James Gnam | March 8-9

“Between dog and wolf” is an expression from old French commonly used to describe a time of day when the light is so dim you can’t distinguish a dog from a wolf. In this new solo work, James Gnam embodies multiple layers of the “dog and wolf” expression to explore the thresholds of the familiar and unfamiliar, of safety and threat, of human nature turning wild and uneasiness replacing certainty.

4. Women of Aviation | March 9 

The Alberta Aviation Museum gears up to host its biggest Women of Aviation event yet.  Get ready to be swept off your feet as they honor the legacy, celebrate achievements, and shape the future at their Women of Aviation event.

5. Piano Recital by Boris Konovalov | March 9 

One of the most prominent pianists of his generation, Dr. Boris Konovalov has received his education from Novosibirsk Glinka Conservatory, MD under Prof. S. Gindis, and then Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, DMA under Prof. Vera Gornostaeva, who was a student of legendary H. Neuhaus – the teacher of Gilels and Richter. You won’t want to miss out on this rare opportunity to witness great music by Konovalov who will be joined by Irina Konovalov. 

6. Wâpakwanîwin (To bloom, it has many flowers) | Until March 10 

This weekend is the last weekend to experience Wâpakwanîwin at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Cultivate your creativity! Meander through the wild rose garden to nourish and nurture your ideas, dreams and inspirations. Take a deep breath, linger and release, reflect and create, and be playful and curious.
