For the uninitiated, Edmonton offers some of best pub and brew experiences in all of Western Canada.  Yes, we are not known for being Celtic Warriors with a love of rugby and clover leaves, but we know our beer and how to ring in St. Paddy’s Day.  As such, our publisher shared his thoughts on five great places for a pint, this year.

Ashford House – a new establishment located in Manchester Square, Ashford House is a proper Irish pub with whiskey and brew labels not found in most establishments. Not to mention that you have come to the right place if you want real gravy with your fries.

Kelly’s Pub – A tried and true downtown Edmonton establishment where you also find football (yes, football, not soccer). If the weather is on your side, sit back on the patio with a proper pint from countries with “proper” beers.

The Sherlock Holmes – If you have not been to the Sherlock Holmes for fish ‘n chips with a Kilkenny, then you have not fully taken in Edmonton’s pub culture. Cozy and comfortable, offering an oasis from downtown Edmonton. You may want to go early as it will get busy.

The Underground Tap & Grill – Unlike the other locations on this list, most people wouldn’t consider The Underground a true pub, but they offer one of the largest on tap and overall beer selections from around the world, with 72 options on a rotating tap alone! Don’t believe me?  Check out their beer wall of fame for a glimpse of their crafty selection.

Duggan’s Boundary Irish Pub – More than an Edmonton establishment, this pub is a true local on the city’s south side, offering all the classic selections on tap you want from an Irish Pub. Live music, good pub fair and loads of regulars to welcome you. One can very easily get hooked on this place.
