1. Host Edmonton Conference | May 23 & 24
If you work in the hospitality industry or just enjoy watching Food Network, then you’ll want to check out one of the workshops at Host Edmonton! Learn about food trends, techniques and ingredients from the top culinary talents in Canada. Highlights include a talk about Building Your Culinary Brand by Christine Cushing from Christine Cushing Live, and cocktail mixing demonstrations from Iron Chef America co-host Kevin Brauch.
Cost: $40 per session; $150 Day Pass. Tickets can be purchased in advance right up until each session begins.

2. What the Truck | May 24, 5 pm – 9 pm
This lively, outdoor gathering on 104 St. downtown brings together 12 food trucks and 12 unique menus of delicious, delicious food. Plan on doing some “truck hopping” to get your meal — rootbeer braised brisket from S’WICH, chipotle mac n’ cheese from Smokehouse BBQ, and candied maple bacon poutine from Incredible Edibles are just a few of the many tasty menu items that will be served up.

2. FC Edmonton Latin Night | May 24, 7 pm
Join the fun  with a Latin Party packed with themed entertainment, music, giveaways, and a retail spot for FIFA World Cup Brazil items such as flags, t-shirts, and ball caps. Then, cheer on the FC Edmonton professional soccer team as they play against the 2013 NASL Soccer Bowl finalist Atlanta Silverbacks.

4. Art Gallery of Alberta Road Trip Refinery Party | May 24, 9 pm – 2 am
Go for a road trip — the shortest, but most fun, one you’ll go for all summer! Dress in your summer-y best and take a trip through Alberta’s landscape through large-scale, comic-influenced paper installations. There will be music, dancing, contests, drinks, and plenty of mingling. Get your camera ready for a selfie in a plywood jalopy — complete with a moving background — by artists Nickelas “Smokey” Johnson.

5. D-Day: Normandy IMAX 3D Film
On May 23 a brand new IMAX 3D documentary begins screening at the Telus World of Science — Edmonton. The 40 minute, all-ages film uses uses animation, CGI, and stunning live action images to explore the history, military strategy, science, technology and human values of one of history’s most influential events.

6. Boyle St. Makers’ Faire | May 24 & 25, 10 am – 4 pm
Explore a bundle of themed pop-up shops featuring locally made clothing, jewelry, home decor, gourmet foods, and an art gallery. Kids can enjoy a craft workshop while parents shop, there will be a cafe to relax in, and you can even register for craft workshops! There will also be a clothing swap, so bring or browse gently used clothing and accessories.

7. Rainmaker Rodeo | May 23-25
Ride on over to St. Albert, pull on your cowboy boots, and enjoy exhibition excitement complete with a parade, market, midway rides, rodeo, family activities, and a performance by Big Sugar on May 23 and Tim Hicks on May 24.

8. Alberta Readers’ Choice Panel | May 24, 1:30 pm
Edmonton Public Library’s Writer in Residence, Jason Lee Norman, will host four authors from Edmonton (Michael Hingston, Diana Davidson, Theresa Shea, and Todd Babiak) that are shortlisted for the Alberta Readers’ Choice Award (a $10,000 literary prize). The writers will also be joined by local readers who enjoyed these books, and they will give their takes on why each of book is special from a reader’s perspective.
