No matter what the weather is like, May long weekend is always a sure sign of spring in the city! Here are some things to do in Edmonton May Long Weekend, May 17-19, 2014:

1. Two new exhibits open at Telus World of Science Edmonton on May 17! Get hands-on with the K’NEX: Thrill Rides exhibit or learn about rescue efforts for endangered habitats and wildlife in the Wildlife Rescue exhibit.

2. Check out 90×90, a new exhibit opening May 17 that features the work of 90 Albertan artists that celebrates the Art Gallery of Alberta’s 90th birthday.

3. Fort Edmonton Park opens this weekend! Take a step back in time and check out all the opening weekend activities (and their 40th Birthday celebrations!) happening at this living history museum.

4. Check out a performance at the Vocal Arts Festival. There’s something for everyone, including special programming for children and $5 tickets for students!

5. Visit a Farmers’ Market! City Market returns to the great outdoors along 104 St. downtown on Saturday, and there are more than 5 other farmers’ markets to visit this weekend. If you’re at City Market, Yellowhead Brewery is now open on Saturdays so you can get some fresh, local beer to take home to enjoy alongside some BBQ.

6. Get dressed up and yell at the screen during a special screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Metro Cinema/Garneau Theatre where audience participation is very much encouraged!

7. See a play! There’s the dramatic When the Rain Stops Falling, the classic screwball comedy Make Mine Love,  or the dark comedy Mistakes Were Made.

8. Have a meal at Edmonton’s newest restaurant, MEAT. Their smoker cooks up some delicious brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, plus the dessert chocolate bacon is deliciously addictive.

9. Stroll Whyte Ave. and stop in to Block 1912 Cafe to try some of their new, homemade gelato which will be served for only $2 all weekend long!

10. End the weekend on a good “note” with a performance by folk songstress Neko Case (with opening acts The DoDos) at the Winspear Centre on May 19.
