Whyte Avenue Art Walk returns in all its full glory

Imagine an outdoor celebration of art, a festival where you can meet the artists as they create before your eyes. You’d be describing Whyte Avenue Art Walk, and after two long years we’re back on the avenue from July 8-10, 2022. We couldn’t be more excited!

This year there will be roughly 250 artists stretched along six blocks of Whyte Ave., from 107 St. through to 101 St., with tents in the north and south street closures at 105 St., in Dr. Wilbert McIntyre Park, on the street closure in front of the park, down the south alley by the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market, as well as in the bus lanes north of 82 Ave. to the library. That’s a lot to see. If we can be honest, we’d have to say it’s a spectacle not to be missed, a vibrant, fantastical explosion of art, creativity, and community.

Whatever your tastes or budget, Art Walk artists offer something for everyone. You’ll see emerging artists, established artists, and a broad variety of styles. Patrons especially enjoy being able to connect with the artists, ask questions about their process or palette, and watch the process unfold.

Art Walk is a family-friendly, accessible event. It’s a great opportunity to revisit some of your favourite businesses, restaurants, patios, and explore some new ones.

The first Whyte Avenue Art Walk blossomed in 1995 with a handful of artists and has since grown to an event that draws as many as 40,000 visitors over the course of its three-day run. As with other years, the festival opens to the public from 10 am – 5 pm each day.

If you are an artist who has considered participating, but you’re still unsure if your work is ready for the public, or you need ideas on how you’d display, volunteering gets you one step closer to the inner workings.
