Many events are happening in the city as the weather warms up, so we want to keep you in the loop! Here is a list of some of the awesome things you can do this weekend in Edmonton.

1) Celeigh Cardinal | Apr. 1

Celeigh Cardinal, Métis soul-folk singer-songwriter is coming to The Arden Theatre this Friday to evoke emotions that you have never felt before. She connects with her audience through humour, passion, and love. Her powerful voice and energy have won her the 2020 JUNO award and the 2018 Western Canadian Music Award. She has performed in countries like Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden and across North America. Tickets are available online or at the box office, which opens on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and one hour before the show.

2) Caribbean Muskrat | Apr. 1–17 

Teatro La Quindicina is back at the Varscona Theatre for its 40th anniversary season! A line-up of classic Teatro shows has been put together to celebrate this 40-year milestone. First in the line is Caribbean Muskrat, commissioned originally by Calgary’s High-Performance Rodeo and the Edmonton Comedy Festival and first performed in 2003. It tells the story of a rare aquatic rodent in Kelowna initiating a love triangle between a customs agent, sleep clinician and restaurateur. Caribbean Muscrat runs from April 1 to 17 at the Varscona Theatre. Tickets are available online, and Tuesdays are pay-what-you-can (available at the door only).

3) Alberta Ballet: Phi | Until Apr. 3

The world premiere of Alberta Ballet’s Phi explores society’s growing dependence on and addiction to technology. Inspired by the music of David Bowie, this sci-fi ballet explores the contrasts between the disappearing natural beauty of reality and the futuristic virtual reality world that is knocking on our doorstep. Phi will mark the seventh installment of artistic director Jean Grand-Maître’s portrait ballet series. It features over 13 of David Bowe’s compositions, including Heroes, Ashes to Ashes, Heathen, and I’m Afraid of Americans. The performance runs until April 3 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets are available online.

4) T. Buckley | Apr. 2

T. Buckley brings his smooth and soulful voice to the stage, making his name known across Canada and the mid-western states. His second solo album, Frame By Frame, looks through the lens of life with themes of determination, society, and everyday moments, inspired by the people in his life. It prompts us to ponder what we are searching for, who’s by our side, and who loves us along the way. You can take in these soulful narratives at Parkview Community League on Saturday. 5) Blush Bridal Show | Apr. 3

It’s that time of year when the sun is coming out, the birds are chirping, and weddings are in full steam ahead! Are you planning for your big day or simply dreaming of it? Blush Bridal Show is back this weekend at the JW Marriot Downtown Edmonton. Its goal? To help you with all your wedding needs. There will be over 50 curated vendors, including the YEG florist, Delica Bridal, Noah Hatoum Films, and Pampas Gal. The event will run from 10 am to 4 pm with three timed entries at 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm. Tickets are available for purchase online.

6) SOUND OFF: A Deaf Theatre Festival | Until Apr. 3

This weekend, SOUND OFF is wrapping up its 6th year in Edmonton of celebrating the talents and stories of Deaf performers from across the country. All performances are accessible for both Deaf and hearing folks as most shows are in American Sign Language. Interpretations are provided where necessary. The festival promotes financial accessibility through free events and pay-what-you-can tickets. Catch one of the mainstage performances such as Myth of the Rare HandMundane Mysteries, Indian Folk Tales, or Theatresports. You can also attend various workshops, play readings, and discussion panels. Paid events are pay-what-you-can, and free events require tickets, which are available online. 7) Expanse Festival | Until Apr. 3

The Expanse Festival is a movement arts festival. In essence, the focus is on body-based work. There are two main streams in the festival: the Performance Series and the Community Outreach Program. The Performance Series features performance works including Tune To A, Where the Two-Spirit Lives, The Lobbyists, and many more. These are works done by local, national, and international artists. The Expanse Community Outreach Program brings together the community through activities and interaction.

8) Winterruption YEG | Until April 9

Festival City (aka Edmonton) is back with another event to enjoy this weekend! Winterruption YEG is a multi-venue music and arts festival that features live music and comedy, outdoor events, craft beer, and a sense of community. DJ Shub, Julian Taylor, and Shaela Miller are among the featured artists this year. You can also take in drag shows with queens like Pepper and Onika Xtravaganza. There are multiple hosting venues, including the Starlight Room, Downtown Edmonton Community League, SOHO, Rocky Mountain Icehouse, Cask & Barrel, and The Backyard. You can check out the schedule online to see event listings. Prices to attend the festival range from free to $45-weekend wristbands.

9) Downtown Dining Week 2022 | Until Apr. 10

This 12-day celebration of Downtown’s diverse culinary scene kicked off on Wednesday and is running until April 10. Over 50 participating restaurants are offering multi-course, fixed-price menus. A multi-course lunch or brunch costs $20, and a multi-course dinner is $35, $50, or $65. This is your chance to expand your culinary horizons to see what our city offers. On April 4, “The Beer From Here” will bring you an evening of storytelling and beer tasting at Craft Beer Market with Scott Messenger. On April 9, a one-hour tour of the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market offers the opportunity to meet vendors and sample fresh produce. Tickets for both events are available for purchase online. 10) Wild Rose Antique Show & Sale | Apr. 2–3

Presented by the Wild Rose Antique Collectors Society, this annual show is one of the largest in western Canada. Check out special collector displays and even bring your own items for on-site appraisals!
