Shred the North: The Style Experience | December 10

It’s finally time for the sports event of the season! This snowboarding competition is unlike anything Edmonton has ever seen before, featuring a special jump designed specifically for the event. The Style Experience is the first stop on Shred the North’s upcoming events circuit, so don’t miss out on catching all this thrilling action at Commonwealth Stadium this weekend. Check out their website for a full competition schedule.

Vivek Shraya: I give myself a future, I give myself a past | Until December 10

This weekend is your last chance to catch the latest exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Vivek Shraya. In this portrait-based exhibit, Shraya imagines a different youth and future for herself. She asks “in the absence of homophobia, misogyny, and racism, who might I be and who might I have been.” Check it out at MacEwan University’s Mitchell Art Gallery.

Holiday Light Displays | Various

Tis the season for festive lights! Candy Cane Lane is back with another year of holiday light displays. There are offering sleigh rides, fire pits, and food truck on the weekends and special open street nights! On December 10, 17, and 23, Candy Cane Lane will be closed to vehicles and the event is encouraging visitors to bring alternative methods of transportation like bikes, sleds, and skis. Make sure to bring a nonperishable item for donation to the Edmonton Food Bank!

Can’t get enough of the festivities? There’s more lights to explore! Check out Borealis Lights in St. Albert or Magic of Lights at the Castrol Raceway for breathtaking drive-through displays. Looking to get outside? Both Zoominescence and Luminaria are offering wonderful winter adventures with tons of fun to explore.

Edmonton Christmas Market | Until December 18

The Edmonton Christmas Market is back for their second weekend of 2022! Following the success of this market in 2021, organizers are excited to bring the market back to one of Edmonton’s most noteworthy attractions: Fort Edmonton Park! There’s tons to explore at this festive event, including lots of vendors selling their wares, local entertainers, and unique culinary experiences.

Plus, there’s more market action happening in the city this weekend. The Indigenous Artist Market Collective is hosting their holiday market at the Prince of Wale Armouries, featuring local vendors selling unique gifts and Indigenous cuisine. You can also check out the St. Albert Christmas Market at the Enjoy Centre or the Christmas Market at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market!

Albert Ballet’s The Nutcracker | December 7 – 11

Celebrate a Christmas tradition with Alberta Ballet. This magical performance follows Klara as she enters the Land of Sweets and befriends a vibrant cast of characters. Wowing audiences since it was first performed in 1892, Tchaikovsky’s score pairs perfectly with the breathtaking choreography performed by 120 dancers. Plus, this year’s production will feature exciting new additions to Act 2’s Kingdom of Sweets. This event is great for families and a wonderful introduction to the magical art of dance.
