Family Day weekend is almost here! Spend some quality time with your loved ones at one of these Edmonton events.

Art Gallery of Alberta

The AGA is offering free admission for Family Day! Visitors can enjoy access to all galleries, including 5 Artists 1 LovePass the Hat, and To Play in the Face of Certain Defeat. There will also be tons of interactive and kid-friendly activities, including a free drawing exercise with Ola Bolarinwa, an artist featured in 5 Artists 1 Love.

Enjoy the largest museum in Western Canada for free! With over five million objects in their collection, The Royal Alberta Museum is a great place to learn more about all the things that make Alberta special. Make sure to visit the Tinker Garage, a hands-on family space filled with supplies to make your own creation! Although online tickets for this event are sold out, the museum is welcoming walk-up visitors as capacity allows.

Library Lunchtime Concert

Head down to the Stanley A. Milner Library for a special Family Day concert! Daniel Gervaïs, a Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champion will be performing a selection of ‘kitchen party’ fiddle music, as well as songs inspired by Stephane Grappeli and Django Reinhardt. Edmonton Public Library locations across the city will also be hosting several other Family Day activities including story-times and puppet shows! Check out their website for more details.

Family Fun Days at Wem

West Edmonton Mall will be filled with several free kid-friendly activities all weekend long! Enjoy balloon artists, face painting, and caricature artists. Full schedule here.

Beethoven Lives Upstairs

Celebrate Family Day with a fun, educational concert featuring over 25 excerpts from Beethoven’s music. Drawing inspiration from the composer’s life, this show follows young Christoph and the “madman” who has moved into his home. On at the Winspear Centre on Saturday February 18, suitable for ages 6 and up.

Family Day Weekend at the TELUS World of Science

Celebrate both Family Day and World Whale Day at the TELUS World of Science this weekend! Explore their feature exhibit Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story to learn all about the fascinating anatomy and life of the world’s largest animal. Plus, enjoy several interactive activities where kids can build their own blue whale or learn all about the creature’s anatomy with a hands-on activity. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Family Day at the Muttart conservatory

Explore one of Canada’s largest indoor botanical collections. On top of their permanent pyramids, the Muttart Conservatory is also hosting a one-of-a-kind international art exhibit in their Feature Pyramid. Gaia, by UK artist Luke Jerram, uses NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface to create an awe-inspiring experience of our planet. Family Day activities will also include face painting, crafts, and a planting activity. Festivities run 12:00pm–4:00pm.

Family day open house at rutherford house

Step inside the home of Alberta’s first Premier this weekend. Rutherford House is offering free admission to this unique historical site. Enjoy a guided tour to learn all about the vibrant personalities of the family that lived inside this house. You’ll also be able to sample a treat made in their historic kitchen and make a family-themed craft.

Family Day at the Alberta Legislature

After a two-year hiatus, the Legislature will be bustling with Family Day activities! Soak up the amazing architecture of this building before heading to the cafeteria for stories from Métis storyteller Naomi Mcllwraith and local storyteller Tripti Singh. There will also be family crafting zones and a stage with live performances.

Reynolds–Alberta Museum

Looking to escape the city for an afternoon? Take a trip to the Reynolds–Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin! Learn more about the rich history of agriculture, industry, and transportation at this award-winning museum. They are offering free admission for Family Day which includes access to the Main Gallery and Aviation Display Hangar!
