Stay warm and cozy this winter

After the deep freeze this weekend we’re still not out of the icy woods yet. Here are some ways to stay warm while enjoying the winter wonderland that is currently Alberta. We’ve also included some activities outside the city in case you feel like a winter getaway.

In Edmonton

Get that beach getaway without hopping on a plane by visiting the World Waterpark in West Edmonton Mall (wem.ca). Swim in the world’s largest indoor wave pool, grab a snack at the concession stand, or venture onto any of their unique waterslides and play features, including the 83-feet-tall Twister.

If you’re looking to relax, spend “a day in sanctuary” at Wellness On Whyte (wellnessonwhyte.com) or just drop in for a quick warm oil massage—either way, you are in for a treat this winter with the many spa packages and treatments they offer.

Wanting some cozy family time or just wicked competition with your friends? We suggest warming up with drinks, tasty snacks, and fun games at a board game cafe. The Hexagon Board Game Cafe on Whyte Ave. as well as the Board N Brew Cafe (9929 103 St) and the Table Top Cafe (5716 75 Street) are all great choices when you want to socialize/get out of the house.

Want to skate, but don’t feel like hitting the ice rinks, then indoor roller skating at Rollers Roller Rink Inc (13543 St Albert Trail) is the perfect place for you. Enjoy groovy music and hone your roller skating skills while staying warm!

In Jasper

For a royal treatment, why not splurge on a visit to Jasper Park Lodge (fairmont.com/jasper). Along with their outdoor hot tub, you can enjoy several spa services, including facial treatments and mobile massage therapy, and take a rejuvenating yoga class.

In Kananaskis

Pop on one of the iconic robes at the Kananaskis Nordic Spa (knordicspa.com) before stepping out into the crisp air. There may be a brief moment of chill, but soon the hot and warm hydrotherapeutic pools will help you relax. Take in a gorgeous twilight soak, and even a quick cold plunge if you’re brave, then enjoy the Eucalyptus and Alchemist Steam Cabin.
