CONTEST:
WHERE Edmonton has tickets for Edmonton Craft Beer Festival to give away to our readers! Comment below with the name of your favourite craft beer and/or brewery to be entered to win two (2) tickets to Edmonton Craft Beer Festival on Friday, June 6, 2014*. Draws will be made at 12 pm MST on May 9, 16, 21, 23, 28, 30 and June 2, 3, 4, and 5. The winner of each draw will be notified by email by 4 pm MST on the day of the draw.

4 Things to Do at Edmonton Craft Beer Festival:

1. Try Something New! Think you don’t like beer? Think again! With over 700 beers from breweries around the world, the Edmonton Craft Beer Festival will present the opportunity to taste beers people may not have ever tried before. “Even someone who thinks they don’t like beer will find something to suit them and those who are set on their personal preferences are likely to find a new favorite” Alberta Beer Festivals judge Dave Nuttall says.

2. Learn! Enjoy a Brew Masters Seminar to learn about the various properties, characteristics, and flavours of beers from top brew masters — some who have travelled from as far away as Europe to present! “This is a rare opportunity to speak with brew masters you wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to,” says Mark Kondrat, Project Manager of the festival. “This truly is an international festival and Edmontonians should be very proud to host such a prestigious event.”

3. Have Your Beer and Eat, Too! Over 25 local restaurants will have delicious food samples available to try and pair with your beer during the event.

4. Try a Limited-Edition Brew! Alberta Beer Festivals is celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2014! Celebrate with them by trying their limited-edition commemorative beer #10 Browning Street. Created and brewed by students in the Olds College Brew Master program, it’s a delicious and smooth traditional English Nut Brown Ale with a hint of roasted pecans. The beer will be available to try at the festival!

Single-day tickets are $19 in advance; Weekend passes are $30; Beer Geek VIP tickets (allow early admission and guaranteed seminar seating) $25 single-day, or $40 weekend-pass. Tickets are available online, and single-day tickets will be available at the door for $25. Sample tickets are $0.50 and available at the event.

  7. Megan Madden on

Love the Granville island Lion’s Winter ale but Ribstone Creek is my favourite local brewery.

  8. Love lots shock top, Granville island, Yukon brewing I could go on and on but love trying anything new I see and always looking to add new favs to the fridge

  9. I have too many craft beers and breweries to choose from. Our Canadian favorites are Ally Kat’s Main Squeeze, and Granville Island’s Lion’s Head Winter Ale, though Big Rock has been doing some innovative flavors as well. Across the pond one of our favorite brewery tours was at a little family-run brewery called Black Isle Brewing in Scotland. Their brewery had broken bottles in the sink, beer spilled all over the floor and wasps flying in and out of the mash tun. And it was all kinds of awesome.

  10. Jay Wintonyk on

Tough call, but one of my favorite craft breweries is Green Flash Brewing Company from San Diego, CA, and favorite from them is the Imperial IPA.

  11. Dania Spillett on

M’ANIS 8.6 from last year’s Edmonton Craft Beer Fest. Haven’t found it in any liquor stores here though still :(

  12. Ryan Reimer on

Since they got me into craft beer I’d have to say Alley Kat takes the cake as my favorite brewery and Full Moon is my go to beer anytime of the year!

  13. My fav beer is Fat Tire from New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft Collins, Colorado. Finally made available at a few places in #yeg

  14. Too many to pick just one….Phillips blue buck, yellowhead, big rock Saaz, languanitas, deschutes mirror pond, ally kat Charlie flint and full moon pale ale.

  15. gonna have to go with rogue dead guy ale! although alley kat’s squeeze is pretty awesome for summer…

  16. Alley Kat is my favorite! However I haven’t gotten to try a whole bunch! That’s why I want to go to beer fear this year!

  17. Still loving the tree brewing, have you ever sampled a thirsty beaver! Very satisfying…

  18. Alley Kat’s Main Squueze is awesome. Also really like a few coming from Granville Island.

  19. Alley Kat by far. No particular favorite, but enjoy the seasonal brews. Am watching hog’s head as well. Doing some interesting stuff. Support local

  20. Just toured the Lervig aktiebryggeri in Stavanger, Norway-great stuff there, esp. their rye IPA! Worth the trip :-)

  21. Karina Gutmann on

My favorite Brewery is Big Rock and I love drinking Big Rock Grasshopper on a hot day!!

  22. Sarah Leask on

Either AlleyKat or Big Rock, depending on my mood- the battle of Alberta goes well beyond the hockey rink for me!

  23. Andrew Opinko on

Granville winter is my favorite beer, also love the alley Kat and big rock selections

  24. Thirsty Beaver amber ale from Tree Brewing – Kelowna, BC. Enjoy this amber on a hot day! Someone mentioned the Blackberry Porter from the Cannery too – I love this one as well! So much flavor.

  25. I moved here literally 2 weeks ago (15 days if you like exact numbers) but I love the Alley Kat from what I had the chance to taste so far. Would love to discover new ones too though!

  26. After the week I’ve been having, all I want is some Fat Tire from New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft Collins, Colorado!!!!

    • Good stuff! Luckily, it’s available at some liquor stores here now (and Beerfest!)

  27. I have to agree to the poster above me. Fat Tire from New Belgium Brewing Company in Ft Collins, Colorado!!!! Perhaps we can get together with our winning tickets and hang at the Fat Tire booth!!

    • Sounds good! They’ll be at Beerfest, and you can find it at some liquor store here too (Sherbrooke Liquor for sure).

  28. I’m a huge fan of Deschutes brews. I also tend to default to Rogue, Hopworks (HUB) and Dogfish Head. Ok let’s be honest, I like a lot and picking a favourite is impossible.

  29. IMO, it’s pretty hard to wrong with Alley Kat .. Local and delicious and one of the few companies that always does fruity flavours well :)

  30. One of my absolute faves right now is Switch Back IPA by Lighthouse brewery in Victoria, BC…but can never go wrong with any of the brews from the fine folks at Alley Kat.

  31. Paolo Canton on

Hoyne, Steamworks, Alley kat are my choices of breweries. As for favourite beer, everything that is ALE. I just love ALE and a bit of a stout on a rainy day. Once you go craft, you never go back. To most commercialized beers, IMO.
