As May comes to a close, we’ve rounded up some amazing events taking place across YEG. From Indigenous films to celebrity cats, plus much more—here’s what’s on in Edmonton this weekend!

1) Hamlet in Isolation | May 28
Thou Art Here Theatre’s second performance in their virtual Hamlet in Isolation series sees Kiana Woo take the stage under the direction of Andrew Ritchie and stage manager Roxanne Côté for a brand-new adaptation of Shakespeare’s most famous work. Tickets are pay-what-you-can and are available through the Thou Art Here Theatre website.

2) UP CLOSE: Rainbow Bright | May 28
This free virtual lecture from the Royal Alberta Museum takes you inside the museum’s extensive collections to learn about how they keep the most colourful items in their care looking their best through careful, precise conservation. Get ready to see the past in a brand new way!

3) Edmonton International Cat Festival | May 29–30
Edmonton’s most paw-pular celebrations of all things feline takes to the internet this weekend for a virtual festival that includes a vendor’s market, Q&A panels, workshops, and celebrity guests including mountaineering Instagram sensation Gary the Cat. 100% of ticket proceeds go to supporting local cat rescues in Edmonton.

4) Knitting for a Good Cause: Chinese Women’s Club | May 30
This final talk in the “I didn’t know that!” Chinatown Stories Series, a collaboration between the Chinese Benevolent Association and the Edmonton City as Museum Project, explores the contributions of the Chinese Women’s Club of the United Church of Canada to the home front in World War II. 5) International Children’s Festival of the Arts | Until June 6
It’s not too late to join in on the International Children’s Festival of the Arts and their 40 Days of PLAY! 6) Root 107 Pop-Up Park

7) All-State Soccer Show: Live Online! | May 30
This FREE online event is fun for the whole soccer family. The virtual event schedule includes 1-on-1 video chats with famous soccer players, player panels and presentations, soccer activities, trivia, and more.

8) Dreamspeakers Film Festival | May 31–June 7
Short films to feature films, animation to music videos—you’ll find it all at this virtual film festival spotlighting Indigenous artists and creators from around the world. Purchase a festival pass to screen all 35 films from the comfort of your own home.
