Happy long weekend, YEG! While the forecast for the weekend looks a little gloomy, we’re here to bring the silver lining for these clouds: from theatre and history to sports and kids’ activities, there’s plenty to experience. Here’s what’s on in Edmonton this weekend!

1) Hamlet in Isolation | May 21
Spend the evening in with one of literature’s most iconic characters as Prince Hamlet takes the stage like never before—from quarantine. Thou Art Here Theatre’s newest mini-series explores our current era through performances inspired by some of Hamlet‘s most iconic soliloquys. It’s an event that Shakespeare lovers won’t want to miss. Tickets are pay-what-you can and are available through the Thou Art Here Theatre website.

2) Edmonton Oilers vs. Winnipeg Jets | May 21
Get in on the playoffs action as the Oilers lace up for Game 2 against the Winnipeg Jets. The game kicks off Friday, May 21 at 7 pm MST. Be sure to get your 50/50 tickets on game day!

3) Goodwill Ambassadors: Edmonton China Dolls | May 23
Celebrate Asian Heritage Month with this virtual presentation from the Edmonton City as Museum Project (ECAMP) in collaboration with the Chinese Benevolent Association, part of the “I didn’t know that!” Chinatown Stories series. Hear stories from two former “China Dolls”, women who acted as goodwill ambassadors for Edmonton’s Chinese community at special events in the late 1960s. Don’t miss this sneak peek into a fascinating chapter in Edmonton’s history! You can get your free ticket through the ECAMP Eventbrite page.

4) International Children’s Festival of the Arts | Until June 6
It’s not too late to join in on the International Children’s Festival of the Arts and their 40 Days of PLAY! Visit the festival website for daily crafts and activities that’ll get you and your child making, exploring, and having fun. Share your creations online with the hashtag #40DaysofPLAY for the chance to win amazing prizes!

5) Dog Days at the Garden | May 22–24
While pets are not normally permitted, for these special days, dogs (on leashes) and their people can enjoy the early spring garden together. This is a BYOB event (bring your own bowl and drinking water).
