1) Beethoven’s Fifth | Feb. 25–26

Symphony No. 5 in C minor is one of Beethoven’s best-known classical music compositions—both in his lifetime and ours. Its beginning notes are some of the most widely recognized ones to exist. The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra will be filling the Winspear Centre with the beautiful sounds of classical music for three shows this weekend from Friday to Saturday. The program will also include Liszt’s Piano concerto No. 1 in E-flat major, and Rossini’s Semiramide: Overture. Tickets are available online.

2) Terrell Edwards | Feb. 25

Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ray Charles. Do these names ring a bell? If you’re a fan of these names, catch Terrell Edwards at Festival Place this Friday as he performs some of the best hits by these great Black jazz and soul singers, among others. Terrell’s deep and soothing voice will speak straight into your soul (pun intended) and transport you back to the days of the breakthrough of jazz. The show starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are available online.

3) Taste of Africa | Feb. 26

Celebrate Black History Month this weekend at The Arden Theatre in St. Albert. The Africans & African Descendants Friendship Club brings you an exciting lineup for Taste of Africa which will feature a variety of shows and activities from singing, dancing, and poetry to food tasting. Join them this Saturday for an unforgettable afternoon! Tickets are available online and you’ll have the option to attend this event in-person or via live stream.

4) Rob Heath | Feb. 26

Join Edmonton-based singer/songwriter, Rob Heath, this weekend at Parkview Community Hall. His newest CD release of Biggest Moments brings together sensational lyrics and sounds to tell the story of kindness among humanity. This theme will transport you away from current world chaos for a little while, take you on a journey of the human condition, and, above all, remind you that goodness can still exist. Tickets are available online or at the door, if available.

5) Peter Pan Goes Wrong | Feb. 26–Mar. 20

This worldwide hit kicks off this weekend on Saturday at the Citadel Theatre. Peter Pan Goes Wrong premiered in 2013 at the Pleasance Theatre in London, England, and is coming to North America for the first time. Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, this comedic play will have you laughing as it takes the original Peter Pan and throws in a twist: in short, anything that could go wrong in the original tale does. The show is approximately two hours with intermission.

6) ViVA Trio | Feb. 27

This Canadian musical trio will be hitting the stage at Festival Place on Sunday. The group is comprised of sopranos, each individual holding a long list of credits in operatic roles, classical concerts, musical theatre, pop, and jazz. They’ve performed at shows across North America and Europe, receiving multiple standing ovations. Not only will they bring you operatic classics, but they will also bring you renditions of Adele’s Hello and Sia’s Bird Set Free. The show starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are available online.
