Fight the winter blues with another fun-filled weekend! With live theatre, sporting events, and culinary festivals, there’s tons of fun to explore in Edmonton.


Anastasia | February 24–26

Originally schedules for 2021, this beloved Broadway musical is finally in Edmonton! Follow young Anya’s journey from poor, orphaned peasant girl to learning her true identity as the lost princess Anastasia. Accompanied by an endearing cast of characters, including an ex-aristocrat and a charming conman, Anya will have to outwit a Soviet officer in order to reunite with her grandmother in the vibrant landscape of 1920s Paris. Thrilling, heartwarming, and dazzling, this musical is a must-see!

Winefest | February 24–25

Sip, sample, and socialize at one of Alberta’s biggest wine events. Although tickets for Saturday are sold out, you can still indulge your inner sommelier on Friday evening from 7:00pm–10:00pm. Enjoy hundreds of wines from the world’s most celebrated regions, which will be perfectly paired with hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants.

The exquisite Hour & Love is for poor people | til March 5

Delight in a double-bill from local theatre company Teatro Live! Join them for night of hilarious and heartwarming theatre that ponders relationships, love, and the passage of time. Read more about these shows here.

Creo | February 24–25

Ballet Edmonton is welcoming two new dance pieces to the Triffo Theatre this weekend. Zurich-based choreographer Ihsan Rustem will be debuting Only the Window, which incorporates personal voices and stories from Ballet Edmonton dancers. Alongside Rustem’s piece, this performance will also include the world premiere of Dorotea Saykaly’s Black Moon, which offers an exploration of our relationship to faith and desire with interesting sci-fi and mythical elements. Don’t miss out on this memorable evening of dance!

Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games | February 24–26

Special Olympics Alberta has been providing opportunities for Albertans with disabilities since 1980! This year’s Provincial games will be hosted in Strathcona County and will feature 8 unique winter sports including bowling, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing, and speed skating. The events will be hosted at 5 different locations across Strathcona County. Visit their website for a full schedule of events.

While you are in the area, enjoy two new unique works of art! To celebrate the 2023 Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games, a new mural was recently unveiled in Millennium Place. Completed by Edmonton artist Emily Chu, this work promotes diversity, inclusion, and empowerment. Also on display is the international travelling public art experience moonGARDEN. Find these unique illuminated giant spheres located outside Millennium Place.

The Afro x Latin Live Music Festival | February 24 & 26

This weekend is your final chance to check out this unique music festival! Afro x Latin Festival is a celebration of African, Black, Caribbean, and Latin cultures through music, food, dance, and more. Join them on February 24 at Naked Cyber Cafe for Soul Section 7.80 Afro Latin RnB Showcase, which will feature some of Alberta’s best vocalists. They will also be hosting a Latin Party & Bachata Social on February 26 at 99ten with a free dance tutorials and live music! Check out their website for more details.

City Hall Ice grooves, juno Skate, and Swing’n Skate | February 24–26

Ready to brave the cold this weekend? Why not skate the afternoon away at City Hall? On top of Ice Grooves and Swing’n Skate, join them this weekend for JUNO Skate. On February 25 from 12:00pm–3:00pm, Edmonton DJ Thomas Culture will be spinning songs by local JUNO nominees. There will also be an opportunity to win tickets to the 2023 JUNO Awards ceremony! Don’t have skates? Don’t despair! Edmonton Arts Council will be offering free skate rentals, alongside free hot chocolate and cookies. Don’t miss this opportunity to skate in style in the heart of downtown Edmonton!
