Fridays at the Legislature
When: Through Aug 31
Where: Federal Building Plaza
About: Discover Fridays @ the Legislature, a free outdoor concert series held during the lunch hour. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Alberta Legislature, this event features a diverse mix of Alberta-based musicians.

Fringe Theatre Festival
When: Aug 16-26
Where: Various Venues
About: This alternative theatre festival is the largest of its kind in North America, featuring over 1,200 uncensored and non-juried shows and performances from over 200 theatre companies from around the world! Venues are located in the Old Strathcona area with roving street performers, beer gardens, delicious food, and great street shopping adding to the festive spirit. Celebrate with this year’s theme: Fringe ‘O’ Saurus Rex.

Edmonton Marathon Family Festival Weekend
When: Aug 18-19
Where: Shaw Conference Centre
About: Everyone of all skill levels and athletic abilities are invited to get active this weekend with 5 km and 10 km run/walks, a 21.1 km run/walk, and an intense 42.2 km marathon. Missed registration? Take part in the 3km free friendship run and walk guided by John Stanton. Family-friendly activities include a fitness expo, live music, and the ABC Run for Kids.

The University of Alberta Observatory
When: Summer Hours Through Aug 30
Where: University of Alberta 
About:
 Located on the roof of the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) is the University of Alberta Observatory. Every Thursday from 12-1pm the Observatory is open for regular solar observing hours, and volunteers will teach you about the beauty of the cosmos for free.

Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival
When: Aug 17-19
Where:
Leduc County Centre
About: An intense series of Dragon Boat racing competitions across Telford Lake to celebrate the city’s Chinese-Canadian community and the skills of several impressive athletes. Grab a seat on a boat or cheer on your favourite team as they race down Telford Lake!

Borden Natural Swimming Pool
When: Through Sept 3
Where:
Borden Park
About: Edmonton’s newest watering hole is complete with a sandy ‘beach’, volleyball nets, patio chairs, and picnic areas. The water is naturally filtered, and a little chillier than most pools, so you’ll feel like you’re taking a dip in a crisp lake! Get there early—it fills up fast!

And don’t forget, all City of Edmonton outdoor pools are free this summer!
