Twin brothers Tarzan and Arab (real names Ahmed and Mohamed Abu Nasser) were born and raised in Gaza City where there are no cinemas, no art galleries, and no public performances because it is forbidden by the ruling Muslim authorities. Despite this hostility towards the arts, the brothers decided to make art and film anyway, and have won recognition and awards around the world for their cutting edge work. Now at the age of 25, the brothers live in Jordan having had to flee their home in 2012 due to death threats from fundamentalists who disapprove of their work. Though This Is Our Land — their first solo show — is travelling around the world, they are unable to accompany it due to the fact that as refugees they do not have permission to travel.

Their incredibly compelling pieces will be for sale, and all proceeds will go directly to the artists. If all of these paintings are sold, Tarzan and Arab will have enough money to continue to work on their art in Jordan for one whole year.

This Is Our Land is on display at Latitude 53 January 10 – February 8, 2014. Visit www.latitude53.org for more information.
