When Kita no Taiko—translated as “Drums of the North”—first formed, the small group had no drums, no costumes, and no formal training. They later debuted at the annual Heritage Festival as Alberta’s first taiko company.

Audiences can’t help but be entranced. Always energetic and vibrant, Japanese drumming requires extreme physical exertion, choreography, rhythm, fluidity, and power. KNT routinely brings its talent to various festivals and venues, including the Fringe, K-Days, Winspear Centre, and Citadel Theatre—and have also collaborated with groups like the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Citie Ballet, and Firefly Theatre.
