What are you looking forward to about this year’s Taste of Edmonton?

Looking forward to meeting people (both business owners and customers) from all aspects of life and from different cultures. Also looking forward to trying different foods, promoting my business, and learning more about business management from other business professionals.

What is your favourite dish on your menu?

My Pork Belly Roast with steamed rice. I’ve been eating this dish since I was a child and it reminds me of my happy place and my wonderful childhood.  It is also my most popular dish and has been featured on CTV Morning Live!

Tell us more about how your business got its start in Edmonton.

My business started in 2018 with a tiny hotdog food cart on the street. I used to work in healthcare and I got laid off. So, while at home doing nothing, I started watching YouTube cooking shows like Chef Gordon Ramsay and Martha Stewart and I have been a foodie ever since! Words of encouragement from my friends lead me to start up my own food business.  So from tiny food cart in 2018, upgraded to a food truck in 2019, to opening Joanne’s BBQ House in 2020, and partnering with Taste of Edmonton for both 2021 and 2022. My other food truck was also invited to join K-Days to represent local businesses in Edmonton at the same time as Taste of Edmonton. So, I’m so humbled and honoured.

Is there something you wish more people knew about your business?

I want people to know that we have great food and something “Edmonton” to offer! Also that we are honest business people. We make sure that whatever you ordered, whether it’s halal, vegetarian, or vegan, you know how it’s done. As well, all our products are made to order so you’ll get the full experience of eating our food hot and our drinks cold.

What other restaurants/vendors are you looking forward to the festival?

Looking forward to the Japanese Village and Canadian Brew House again this year.
