There are multiple ways to enjoy some frozen fun in and around Edmonton!

Skating

Lace up your skates and head to one of Edmonton’s many outdoor skating rinks, including the Victoria Park Iceway (12130 River Valley Rd.), Rundle Park skating trail (2909-113 Ave.), and the five-hectare lake at Hawrelak Park (9930 Groat Rd.). Check out the City of Edmonton website for rink closures, ice safety, and available facilities.

Skiing

Hit the slopes and carve up some fresh snow at Rabbit Hill (25512 Township Rd.) or Snow Valley Ski Club (13204 Rainbow Valley Rd.), and even try snow tubing with Edmonton Ski Club (9613-96 Ave.) or Sunridge Ski Area (10980-17 St.)!

Sledding

Prefer to slide down a hill like you did as a kid? Grab your toboggan or flying carpet and trek to one of these epic sledding spots: Emily Murphy Park (Emily Murphy Park Rd. & Groat Rd.), Gallagher Park (97 Ave. & 92 St.), or Government House Park (Groat Rd. & River Valley Rd.).

Trekking

Trek the great outdoors. Take a peaceful walk in the city’s river valley, or escape the bustle of the city with a trip out to Elk Island National Park (near Fort Saskatchewan). The serene winter season is the best time to view the wildlife and to see a spectacular sky full of the Northern Lights. Some favourite winter activities include cross-country skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing.
