Celebrate 20 inspirational years of opera and music theatre with Opera NUOVA. This festival of theatrical fable, fantasy, and fairytale unites music, drama, and dance with the visual arts. What an “opera”tunity!

Raise a glass to NUOVA’s 20th anniversary! This elegant evening will be filled with exquisite music & talent, as they welcome back acclaimed and illustrious alumni who will return to perform alongside our 2018 Festival Faculty and Emerging Artists.

Behind the Scenes Masterclasses* | May 27 & June 3 & 10 – 6:30 pm
King’s University, 9125 50 St
This unique series offers the public an opportunity to see the focused work required to become a dedicated singer and collaborative pianists. Like a fly on the wall, audiences are welcome into this ‘open lesson’ to watch out esteemed faculty at work.

Experience the beauty and diversity of our singers and pianists as they interpret the thoughts and feelings of a variety of composers spanning music history.

Music for Contemplation: Sacred Song Concert & Tea | June 3 – 3 pm
King’s University, 9125-50 St.
This concert will feature many excerpts from famous oratorios, sacred gospel and art song, new and old. After the show, enjoy high tea by donation and visit with NUOVA artists.

Tartuffe | June 7-9 – 7:30 pm; June 10 – 1:30 pm
King’s University, 9125-50 St.
Tartuffe is a lively, comedic exploration of power and hypocrisy based on Molière’s most famous play.

Master Class (a play) | June 12, 14, 15 & 17 – 8 pm; June 16 – 2 pm
L’UniThéâtre, 8627-91 St.
Maria Callas arrives on stage at Julliard to give a Master Class. This Tony Award-winning play by Terrance McNally touches the soul at the center and nature of art.

City Workers in Love | June 13 & 16 – 8 pm; June 15 – 6:30; June 17 – 2 pm
L’UniThéâtre, 8627-91 St.
This tells the story of a street repair crew on a typical summer’s day as they strive to help their city and themselves. Along the way they must overcome various obstacles to romantic bliss, from bureaucratic mismanagement to the violent interventions of a malevolent garbage man.

MOZART’s The Magic Flute Re-Imagined | June 23, 26 & 28 – 7:30 pm; June 30 – 1:30 pm
Festival Place, 100 Festival Way, Sherwood Park
The Magic Flute re-imagined in the far north, the darkness of an arctic winter gives way to glorious spring in this sparkling, fun-filled adaptation of Mozart’s beloved fantasy. This opera will be sung in German with English dialogue.

Into the Woods | June 24, 27, 29 & 30 – 7:30 pm
Festival Place, 100 Festival Way, Sherwood Park
In this imaginative Tony Award-winning musical classic by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, the brilliant musical score interweaves the plots from several well-known fairytales to share a contemporary message about dreams, wishes, and the power of rallying together.
