Whether you are hitting the town, spending some quality time with family, or taking your tastebuds on a journey, there’s tons of ways to ring in the new year! Here are some amazing Edmonton events taking place on December 31.
Family Friendly Fun
Downtown Festival and Fireworks
The City of Edmonton is bringing fireworks to Churchill Square! With an early show at 8:30pm and a traditional midnight celebration, this event is perfect for little ones and night owls alike! Plus, there will be tons of live entertainment, including performances from Melafrique, Colton Bear, and fire performances from FloWarrior. City Hall’s skating rink is also open for the season and there will be free skate rentals on a first-come, first-served basis. Programming begins at 6:30, so make sure to head down to Churchill Square to participate in all the action.
Family fest
Stony Plain is back with an evening of family friendly festivities! Heritage Park will be filled with tons of activities, including sleigh rides, skating, and a firework show. This event is free but make sure to bring a donation for the Parkland Food Bank.
Strathcona County’s New Year’s Eve Festival
Running from 4:00pm–8:00pm, there’s plenty of time to explore all the fun that Strathcona County has to offer for New Year’s Eve! They’ve got activities taking place at Festival Place, the Sherwood Park Arena and Sports Centre, and Broadmoor Lake. Explore some ice sculptures, grab a cookie and some hot chocolate, or participate in a fun holiday craft.
New Year’s Eve Beach Ball
Three words: indoor fireworks show. Need we say more? This spectacular event hosted at West Edmonton Mall’s World Waterpark is one of this year’s hottest events (literally!). Serving as the perfect retreat from cold temperatures, the New Year’s Eve Beach Ball will also feature live entertainment, a buffet, and caricature artists!
Noon Year’s Celebration
TELUS World of Science is offering a unique twist on traditional New Year’s celebrations! Celebrate the “noon year” with them at the Syncrude Science Stage with a countdown and their interpretation of fireworks. Check it out on December 31 & January 1 at Noon.

Party the Night Away!
NYE Bash with Prism
Kiss 2022 goodbye with this iconic Canadian rock band. They’ll take the stage at Century Casino Showroom at 9:00pm. Singing along to hits like “Armaggedon” and “Spaceship Superstar” is the perfect way to start a new year!
New year’s Eve at Ice District Plaza
Edmonton’s downtown events hub has got your back for New Year’s Eve! Head down to the ICE District for a watch party while the Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets. Then, at 10:30, country music star Brett Kissel will take the stage for an iconic New Year’s Eve party. What better way to ring in the new year than with hockey and country music?
Big Sugar at River cree resort & casino
Join one of Canada’s biggest rock bands for a night of tunes! After taking a break from touring due to the passing of bassist Gary Lowe, the band is exciting to hitting the stage again. Make sure to head down to the River Cree early to check out their restaurant The Kitchen for a delicious buffet.
NYE Latin Fiesta
Latin Sound Productions and The Rec Room West Edmonton Mall are welcoming guests to dance the night away! Featuring music from local DJs and dance lessons from Caribeean Touch Dance School, this event will have you salsa-ing your way into 2023.
