Summer is beginning to turn to fall, but that doesn’t mean the adventures have to end! From August through to October, you can be sure to find lots of opportunities to have fun (and support local) at family farms across the Edmonton region.

You’ve “goat” to check out the Edmonton region’s amazing family farms! Photo courtesy of Kraay Family Farm.

1) Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm
At Prairie Gardens, you’ll find a family farm that celebrates tradition and innovation with 35 acres of rare, heirloom, and specialty vegetables. Load up on delicious vegetables at their farm stand and their weekly farmers’ market. Beyond the farm store, your admission ticket includes a wagon ride, “behind-the-scenes” farm garden tours, and plenty of opportunities for U-Pick goodies, from fresh flowers to vegetables. With a Farm Animal Discovery Pass, you can even get to feed the sheep, goats, and rabbits! Special events running throughout the year also include farm-to-table dinners and specialty workshops. || 56311 Lily Lake Rd., Bon Accord, Alberta, 780-921-2272

2) Edmonton Urban Farm
You don’t have to go far to have a fun farm experience! Formerly the Northlands Urban Farm, Edmonton Urban Farms packs in beehives, veggie gardens, a pollinator patch, and more in a one-acre patch of land in Northern Edmonton. Come by to learn more about urban gardening, as well as to ask questions and learn tips and tricks for your own garden! Tours are currently available Wednesday evenings by appointment only. || 11312-79 St NW, (780)-983-4010

3) Edmonton Corn Maze
Explore over 5 km of twisted fun as you traverse this 15-acre corn maze, which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of Edmonton’s Food Bank. All this season, Edmonton Corn Maze is also collecting donations of funds and non-perishable food items to support the Food Bank’s vital work in the community. Once you’ve made it through the maze, enjoy a ride on the Corn Cob Express, as well as farm-fresh produce and specialty local goods at the Farm Market. || 26171 Garden Valley Rd., Spruce Grove, Alberta, 780-288-0208

4) Kraay Family Farm
Located just outside of Lacombe, this farm has everything you want in a family adventure. Take pictures among fields of golden sunflowers, find unique treasures with gemstone mining, hang out with fuzzy farmyard friends, and wander through the famous Lacombe Corn Maze, which this year celebrates the centennial of the discovery of insulin. These are just a few of over 40 attractions available! The 2021 season goes until October 16th; you can book your tickets online or purchase them at the gate. || Site 6 Box 9 RR 1, Lacombe, Alberta, 403-302-1709

5) Sunnybrook Farm Museum
If you’re making a day trip down to Red Deer, why not add some farmyard fun to the itinerary? Sunnybrook Farm is Red Deer’s oldest farm, and is both a working farm and a family-friendly museum experience! Feed chickens, enjoy seasonal demonstrations of traditional farm equipment, and explore the daily lives of the first European farmers in the region. Admission is by donation. || 2879 Botterill Crescent, Red Deer, Alberta, 403-340-3511
