Edmonton Opera’s Don Giovanni is a funny, sultry, and thought provoking opera that adds a modern twist to a beloved opera classic. With a new English libretto by artistic director Joel Ivany, this semi-staged opera with its brilliant cast of characters is a hit!

The story originally created by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Italian-American librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte tells the fictional rendition of a real life Don Giovanni, Casanova, who lived during the time of Mozart and Da Ponte. The story follows Don Giovanni (played by Elliot Madore), a libertine character and all around anti-hero, as he charms his way into the hearts and beds of unsuspecting women, usually with disastrous consequences.

The cast of Don Giovanni shines with their fantastic voices and great acting. Emotions soar as  Donna Anna (played by Jonelle Sims) and Donna Elvira (played by Andrea Nuñez) express the devastating effects of Don Giovanni’s womanizing with their beautiful voices. While Leporello (Played by Justin Welsh), Don Giovanni’s somewhat oblivious wingman, keeps audiences in stitches of laughter. Elliot Madore as the titular character is charming and endearing even if his character is a scandalous cad.

With the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Edmonton Opera Chorus, as well as a sensational cast, Edmonton Opera’s Don Giovanni will leave you entertained and wanting more.
