Enjoy high-flying circus acts, world-class films, unique metal finds, and much more—here’s what’s on this weekend in Edmonton!

1) Asif Ali Special Presentation | Sept. 30–Oct. 3
Asif Ali has appeared in Arrested Development, Modern Family, and most recently in WandaVision. He’s performed over 100 comedy shows across North America and around the world; now, you can catch him for one weekend only at The Comic Strip! Enjoy great food and big laughs with this live comedy event.

2) YEGPodFest | Oct. 1–3
Your favourite podcasts from creators across Edmonton and across Canada are all coming together in one place for the second annual virtual YEGPodFest! Featured guests include members of The Strategists, The Well Endowed Podcast, Cost of Living, and many, many more. Free panels include Q&As with your favourite creators, as well as workshops to make, improve, and promote your own podcasts. While most events are free to the public, pick up a weekend pass to get VIP access to all events, plus the chance to win great prizes!

3) Edmonton International Film Festival | Oct. 1–10
One of 5 Oscar-qualifying film festivals in Canada, the EIFF features 40 feature-length films and 160 short films as part of its lineup, ranging from dramas to documentaries to indie films of all stripes. Catch the festival in-person at Landmark Cinemas or online; you can find a full lineup of this year’s films here. All in-person attendees are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test as part of the restriction exemption program.

4) We Had a Girl Before You | Oct. 1–31
Brought to you by Northern Light Theatre, this virtual theatre performance is back from the grave for another month of Gothic horror! When Edwina “Weenie” Trout (played by Kristin Johnston) leaves behind her life at the orphanage to begin work as a lady’s companion in a mysterious, isolated mansion, she finds herself trapped in a world of terror. Can she find her way out? Catch this haunting tale from the comfort of home before it returns to its crypt—forever.

5) Metal Art Show and Sale | Oct. 2–3
Whether you’re looking for jewelry, home decor, or some chain mail (and who isn’t, really), you’ll find it at this juried show and sale hosted by the Reynolds-Alberta Museum. Dozens of artists and artisans from across the Edmonton region are featured at this show—support local and check out some incredible work! The museum is currently operating at reduced capacity and masks are required.

6) Firefly Theatre presents: VIVAREE | Oct. 3
Enjoy a day at the circus with this spectacular show for the whole family! VIVAREE features aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, and much more. After the show, try out the circus life for yourself with juggling and plate-spinning workshops. Proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test will be required for attendees over the age of 12.

7) Notorious Cree | Oct. 3
James Jones, better known as Notorious Cree, is one of the top 5 hoop-dancers in the world, a So You Think You Can Dance Canada finalist, and a social media influencer with over 2 million follower on TikTok. Catch him LIVE at the Arden Theatre on Oct. 3 for an unforgettable blend of dance, music, comedy, and storytelling the Notorious Cree way!
