From beloved favourites to hidden gems, the town of Devon, 20 minutes southwest of West Edmonton, is chock-full of activities and attractions to enjoy. With multiple ways to spend the day, from sports and recreation to museums and botanic gardens, you’ll have plenty of reasons to keep coming back for more.

With a weekly rotating selection from over 90 flavours, it’ll be hard to go back to your usual bakery run after trying Frickin’ Delights’ vegan donuts. Photo courtesy of Frickin Delights Donuts.

1) Stroll through the University of Alberta Botanic Garden
It’s one of the Edmonton region’s most popular attractions for a reason: this 240-acre garden boasts over 2,000 species of flora from around the world. Visit the world-class Aga Khan Garden, with its Mughal architecture and landscaping, stroll through the serene Kurimoto Japanese garden (be sure to ring the bell in the belfry!), visit the Indigenous Garden, and much more.

2) Have fun in the sun at Voyageur Park
This park along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River has plenty of room for hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and more! Other attractions at the park include a mountain bike park and a boat launch. For another great view of the riverbanks, head across the bridge to Prospector’s Point.

3) Play a round at Devon Golf
This golf course, located on the east end of Devon just south of Voyageur Park, offers a top-quality, 18 hole course with some more challenging holes for the experienced player. Choose between a 9- and 18-round game, then settle into some hearty comfort food at The Greens Restaurant and Patio afterwards. In the winter, the course becomes a perfect place for cross-country skiing.

4) Discover something new at the Canadian Energy Museum
This museum, located at the site of the historic Leduc No. 1 oil well, is the perfect spot for a day of learning and fun with the family. Learn about the history of energy in Alberta and beyond, explore over 200 interactive exhibits, and even take a tour of the original oil rig.

5) Grab a sweet treat at Frickin’ Delights Donuts
This local, small-town café specializes in handcrafted, vegan, old-fashioned donuts. Frickin’ Delights offers 6 options on weekly rotation from their roster of over 90 flavours! From Chocolate Blackberry to Rhubarb Apple Cider and everything in between, expect to find something new and delicious every time you visit. You can also grab a tea, coffee, or their tasty dill pickle soup, all satisfying and all 100% vegan.
